Local representation at WordCamp Asia events is the one issue we have been advocating for, and we’re pleased that this year we saw a much higher percentage of local representation.
In October our position was that WordCamp Asia 2026 should aim for a minimum of 60% local speaker representation, a target that was set for the 2025 event. The figure this year was much higher. Double, in fact.
- WordCamp Asia 2025 – 38% of speakers were from APAC, and 28% were from local businesses (source)
- WordCamp Asia 2024 – 29% of speakers were from APAC, and 18% were from local businesses (source)
We’re not claiming to have had any influence. We’re still a small reality. We’ll continue to advocate for local representation and we’ll share a figure we think the organizers should aim for for 2027 once we figure what that should be – via a survey, perhaps.
75% of speakers at WordCamp Asia 2026 were from the APAC region.
We’ve crunched the numbers: Total number of speakers: 61
Speaker location (by region)
- APAC: 75.4% (46 speakers)
- Americas: 13.1% (8 speakers)
- EMEA: 11.5% (7 speakers)
Speaker’s company region
- APAC: 59.0% (36 speakers)
- Americas: 31.1% (19 speakers)
- EMEA: 9.8% (6 speakers)
Speakers from India, the host nation: 33 speakers. Well done to the organizing team for selecting more people from the region.
