With all the volatility in the markets the past weeks, it feels now is the right time to launch this initiative. In the face of growing uncertainty, coming together as a community makes sense. We can support each other, build connections and develop strategies to grow stronger.
The idea for WPapac was born before drama with the tariffs. A number of us recognized a big gap between the size of WordPress community in the region, the output it produces, the contribution to the WordPress project, and representation of APAC-based businesses and people within the project, at events and the media.
We’re not pointing fingers. We need to put ourselves forward more. We need to host our own events, podcasts and live streams in our own timezone.
Advocacy is much more effective as a single voice representing many, and we’ll be running a number of campaigns to push our agenda. For example, to help WordCamp Central achieve their local representation targets at WordCamp Asia 2026, after missing them this year.
Over the next few weeks, as more businesses and people join, we’ll be developing, refining and articulating our vision and mission, and publishing a manifesto. For now, this is an open invitation for anyone to join:
- As a Community Member, participating in discussions on Discord. Anyone from anywhere in the world can join.
- As Professional Member, if your business is based in APAC and want to contribute beyond discussions and help us with our mission.
We are also keen to connect media outlets and existing networks, both local and global, that can help us reach as wide and audience as possible.
If you’re interested in helping us you can join for free.
Any questions, feel free to reach out.
